Pendulum Recreation Critique

What I thought I did best was my pendulum movement. Although certainly not the best from our class I thought I was able to make decently realistic movement. My classmates really did well with creativity. We went from seeing just a pendulum with no background to a whole scene with various items other than the pendulum. What I feel I could improve on would be modeling. I wanted originally to make a grandfather clock but because I would have modeled a lot of little details I didn't think I could do it. My strengths not necessarily in this project I feel is creativity and camera movements. Overall I should improve on modeling backgrounds and creating a story with my animation, also to improve my strengths I can use the rule of thirds and principals of design further improve my future projects.

Pendulum Recreation

Using design principles and camera movements my animation was made more interesting. I was able to almost tell a story with the new additions to my animation. I used elements of unity, variety, simplicity, formal and informal balance, and contrast. The unity was how each clock was alike, but they were contrasted because I had a side of light clocks and a side of dark clocks. I also used variety in how some clocks were bigger than others. I decided to also change the camera angle from formal balance to informal balance throughout the animation.

Design Principles Review and Proposal

I want to create a pendulum project like the one in the third thumbnail picture. Using the repeat of circles and a spinning camera I want to portray chaos and madness. I will also add contrast like I have in the other thumbnails to add variety and less conformity. Also I could add music and sound to create a better feeling of an uneasy and chaotic scene. To create it I will change the color of the clock and duplicate the clock many times. The camera will rotate continuously until meeting the one clock when it turns 12:00. Then we will see the pendulum fall.

Timing and Spacing in Physics

Without timing and spacing your animation would look unrealistic. To make it as realistic as you can you want to track how the object your are modeling works with real life spacing and timing. We were able to create pendulum by tracking one in real life. While I was modeling I could tell that when I tried just eye-balling the spacing and timing it turned out to look uneven and it became too fast and slow at some parts. I was able to fix this when I made the timing and spacing constant like the example we had in real life, but each object's timing and spacing is different. Working with the ball we again used a reference from real life to get the exact timing and spacing, but this type the timing and spacing was different each bounce of the ball making it harder to animate.

The History Of Cartoon Animation

Related imageGrowing up I enjoyed watching cartoons from the past. I used to watch two discs with over 300 different cartoons on them over and over. My favorite being Hunky and Spunky, which was about a mother donkey and her son who always seemed to get into trouble. Some cartoons on these discs were in color with sound, meanwhile others were not. This means most of the cartoons were most likely made sometime in the 1930's. My reason behind this is because during the 1930's cartoon making drastically changed starting out in 1928 with Disney's Steamboat Willie being the first cartoon with synchronized sound.Ward Kimball had said 'You have no idea of the impact that having these drawings suddenly speak and make noises had on audiences at that time.

Flowers and Trees was the first full color cartoon. The new age of cartoons had come where all sorts of new characters were created such as Tom and Jerry, Betty Boop, Donald Duck and Goofy. These characters even live on today some episodes still playing on TV and others have had many different generations of cartoon making.

To create these cartoons the artists would use cel-animation. The technique was the dominant

form of animation in cinema until the advent of computer animation. When using cel-animation you would need to draw every frame of the animation to create a completed product. A great representative of this type of animation is Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, being

As you know animation has changed a lot since then but I still appreciate the roots all animation has come from and how it has developed today. Although, this is not the type of animation I plan on creating, the hard-work and time consuming art of cel-animation very much fascinates me.
